I’m a little reluctant to post this because I’ve seen more than my share of seniors that have gotten into the sport of power chairing only to give up in disgust and frustration after taking a nasty spill. Happens all the time, newbie chair jockey gets the fastest chair they can lay their hands on instead of building their skill set over time with a progression of increasingly powerful chairs. I guess that’s to be expected when Medicare and/or insurance is picking up the tab for a brand new chair with little or no out of pocket cost for the neophyte chair rider. Out of the box, a Hoveround, Zip'r Mobility or Karman Healthcare will easily top out at over 10 mph, which is simply too much performance for a beginner. Don’t be fooled by the manufacturers’ slick ads that make these fire breathers look like anybody with a pulse can safely operate them. Remember, those ads feature professional riders on a closed course. So, to the ad, this Jazzy chair may not have the street cred of the latest Hoveround or Rascal, but in stock trim, it has a good turn of speed and would make a good beginner chair, or a decent track day mount for an experienced senior. As with any chair, a few well chosen mods, such as gripper hand truck tires, a bigger battery and lightweight hand controls would likely pay off in handsome performance dividends. springfield.craigslist.org/mcy/3835428165.htmlRemember, when chairing, it’s AGATT. I went looking for some of that caliber but I couldn't find any that were up to the former glory... Tim, I would caution you to take anything Dingo Dave says with a healthy grain of salt. He is, after all, a part of the chair stunterz scene. As a group, he and his gang of octogenarian hooligans have given power chairing a black eye with regard to public perception of the sport. The oxygen bottles, adult diapers and blood glucose meters littering the roadways are a sad testament to the tragic consequences of chair stunting on public streets. |

I can only hope my father doesn't hear of this. or he'll be commissioning a custom hi-po chair just to show you how it's done. Even now, in his mind, every stop light is an invitation to race, and anybody that passes him or impedes his progress on the street, well, let's just say it's _all_ personal. I can see him 10 years from now terrorizing the staff at some assisted living center, and calling me bitching that he "needs more amperage dammit!!"
