Hello Everyone, it was great to get to meet everyone on Sunday. It seems that we have a very diverse group of both experience and knowledge, along with some great looking bikes! My build started as a stock '79 CB650 and has ended with something my wife coined "Wicked Wanda." With the help of my Uncle John, providing storage, tools, help with modifications, and large amounts of PBR, I had it up and running over a winter. There were no major changes or mods, just took off and put on what I thought would look cool on the bike. When I started it, I had a cafe racer style in mind and over the months it morphed into something that I thought looked original, but a little newer. Growing up, my dad was a Honda (and other Japanese) bike guy so I am kind of partial to them. I plan on keeping this bike until the motor falls apart! Now the frustrating part, this season I have discovered what is possibly a float problem. I've had the carbs cleaned and synced, but the floats were never replaced and I am afraid I am going to need a rebuild. Can anyone help??? Other than that, I love riding this bike and it saddens me that I haven't been able to in the last 4 months, just ask my wife! HA! @wt100, Thanks! I reformed the old seat with new foam and had a guy over on College St. recover it for me.

That's a sharp looking ride, and definitely a keeper. Just goes to show you don't have to break the bank to create a unique bike. Of course, if somebody does have a bank, and wants to try to break it on mechanized motivation, I'm all for that too. Just let me try out a few of your toys while you're at it.

Nice! I like your trim job on the rear fender. If you were tempted to do the front but were waiting on a second opinion, I "second the motion".

cb350fjockey, Thanks! I have been tempted! I just ended up leaving it alone because it lent itself to the "original" look of the bike. There really wasn't anything wrong with the rear fender, my cousin and I just got a little crazy with the grinder!

That's sure a nice Moto Guzzi front wheel in that one photo! Sloppy garage though! Would someone please help Cully with his Honda? He may be the guy that picks you up in an ambulance some day.

So I spent my day off taking the carbs off the Honda. I've got pics below, long story short, gas was flooding from the float bowls. With the help of Justin H. I was able to trouble shoot a few things. Since my problem was at the float bowl area, took out the needle valve and pilot screw and both were fine. The rubber on the pilot screw seemed to seat fine. No float had any damage and moved freely on the pivot pin. I did see that 3 of 4 pilot screw gaskets were shot as well as the float bowl gaskets, I'll replace those. I'm not sure if I've avoided a rebuild or not, guess I'll see when I get it back together. Any thoughts, I'm out of ideas on what to do. These things were a bitch to get out (the air box popped right out AFTER the carbs). So while I had them out I cleaned as best I could and just my luck, found a small gasket in the bottom of the pan and I have no idea where it came from! www.flickr.com/photos/47418637@N07/sets/72157628598675723/

After replacing the gaskets, you may want to double-check the little metal tang on the needle valve. I had one that was bent a little too far on one of my carbs once, and the carb kept overflowing.

Doc, yea, I took a good look at all the needle valves and they all looked to be in good shape. No damage and the rubber seems to seat just fine. I'm hoping it's just the gaskets but I spent most of last night searching for a gasket set for the carbs because I need a few smaller pieces also.

@wt100, yea I checked them out also. Most gasket sets run $30-35, I'm wondering if it just makes since to buy the rebuild kits for the same amount. As much trouble as it was to get the airbox off, I'm now considering going to pod filters. Anyone have any suggestions/advice. Should I consider going with bigger jets (all #90s now)?

If you change to PODs you will definitely have to re-jet. Maybe some CB guys can give you specifics.
