You can't be cool and comfortable.. the path of the pipe looks like they would keep you warm while being cool.. I did mean to ask you is that Mr. Hayne in the overalls you had working at that bike??

Track day the tank was leaking fuel from the cap so i didn't risk the tech inspection. Got home and found a plumbing gasket that fit perfectly. ;D
Now dealing with the no charging issue and getting the new fork seals. installed. Really want it ready for the club ride on the 9th.

Skip the electrical diagnosis and just install a magneto. I bet Brad would be able to adapt one of those high quality Lucas units, he seems to be very fond of their products.

I WISH i could afford Lucas Electrics. It's just that required full time electrician that puts them out of my price range. Update - I took another run at it following the "what is easy" principal that has served me so well. Figured out (all by my Timmy) that the rectifier / regulator is shot, so i have one on order. No idea if that is the only issue but it's a start!

Well i think she's officially DONE!
Austin fixed the electric issue so now she charges and i even have a neutral light!
So round one of the build is complete.
Of course, round two starts now but that's another story. ;D

Just a little messing around. Fund some small rubber "feet" for chair legs that fit my cutoff points of the frame. Figured it might be better than leaving it open to rust . I'll let the glue set a bit than smooth it out and the old "rustolium powder-coating".

Proving that a "build" on a vintage bike never has a stopping point, i seem to have toasted something in the electrics.
While trying to start the bike last week the lights and indicators cut out, came back on and then cut out for good. Battery is charged but not a glimmer of any "life" when i turn the key on. Fuses are fine unfortunately. Here we go...

You might try hot wiring around the key to see if its your ignition.

I came across this picture and the Yamaha reminded me of your XS400. Do you think you could shoehorn some tires that size onto her?
