I bought this bike a week ago, the carb was off the engine, no cables hooked up and a big ugly fairing on the front. After scraping my knuckles hundreds of times taking the carb on and off, an hour getting the fairing off, and four hours looking for loose wires, I've gotten down to one part that I need to make it legal. The headlight bracket. The 850 on this is basically a bored out 750, and the pipes currently don't have baffles in them. Right now my main focus is on the petcock valve. If anyone has suggestions or has worked on a bike like this before, feel free to text or call me. Thanks

Re: petcock. Try www.z1enterprises.com/ for a replacement. I'm (slowly) wrenching on an '82 GS650 and the petcock was available thru Suzuki, for $94.00. On Z1 for $54.00. And if they don't have a replacement they have block-off plates that will then allow you to run a generic Pingle petcock. Good luck!

Got the bike running but it drips fuel out of the carb. Any suggestions?

Is it a vacuum controlled petcock?
Is it just when parked for a time?
Could be float issues.
Could be petcock not shutting off completely,
I'm sure there will be better advice from the carb Gurus but answers to those questions will help. The more detail to your question the better.

Just giving everyone an update. After asking around, reading these forums, and staring at the petcock, I have discovered that (get ready to laugh at me) I had the vacuum hose hooked up to the fuel sensor instead of the carb. Now all I need to do is get a way to mount the headlight on this bike and it will be good to go. Thank you guys.

Does anyone who has a clue about fuel systems make house calls? I have tried too many different things and I need a trained eye and ear to pick out what I can't.

Alright guys, after all the thinking and thinking and daydreaming and more thinking, I've decided to do some body modding to my bike. I'm at a crossroads as to what I really want to do though. This is where you guys come in. Cafe? Bobber? Keep it Vintage? Consider this an official poll from your friendly neighborhood new guy. Who knows, maybe i'll put a little flag with SV&CR on it flapping on the back of the seat. We will see......

So you want it hard tailed or do you want to keep the suspension? This is where you first need to decide on what you want to do. From there we can help out

I'm thinking I want to keep the suspension, but shorten it a bit. I know that ape hngers will be in my future, and I'm gonna use one of those old tractor seats as the base for my throne, but other than that, I'm still pondering

What you are wanting to do is mainly cosmetic, it will be fairly easy to start. Ask questions, I've built a 75 xs650 bobber, but hard tailed it and rewired it
