Looking for some suggestions/input here... I'm currently on my permit but looking to get my full license in the next 7 days and here's why: The new law that comes into effect on the 28th for permit riders, while it lifts the 50mi restriction it is going to require that anyone who applies for a license after the 28th will have to show proof of having completed the safety course. I obviously understand that it's a good idea to do the course as time/funds permit but I'm not able to afford that at this point. I'm in a pickle because my MT125 isn't up to MO inspection standard (horn is inoperable, hi/low switch is hard wired to low, and the kill switch is touchy) and I'm pretty low on funds, not to mention that it's still licensed through Vermont. Anyone have any suggestions for a place that might rent a road worthy 250 or smaller cheap for half a day so I could do my test? Don't think that most places will rent to a permit holder?

Wow good info, didn't know the new policies. I am riding on a permit as well, and obviously need to get that license test done.
Thanks for the info!

Looks like that portion may not go into effect with the rest of the bill. From the full text: Beginning January 1, 2014, every applicant for a motorcycle license or endorsement shall show proof that he or she has successfully completed a motorcycle training course approved under sections 302.133 to 302.138.

If you get pulled over, just say that you don't have your license cuz it's hidden in a vault in hawaii.

Good info. If I had a 250 you would be more than welcome to use it for the test. Anyone got any ideas?

Woah- I took the test yesterday in Nixa. It was a breeze, and they did not inspect the bike whatsoever. No test on any controls, signals, nothing! I was surprised at how easy & short the test was. The test only consisted of being able to maneuver the bike per the instructor's directions. Example; take off & stop in a specific distance, hang a Louie, hang a Ralph, get up to speed then swerve & stop. You got it!

If you haven't found a bike to use for the test, send me a PM. The KLR250 is available, freshly inspected and licensed.

Thanks everyone for the offers. I wound up taking and passing the test today on Tim's DRZ400. Did the test at the downtown office in Springfield and, like Sarie said, it was dead easy. They DID confirm that all applicants, after January 1 of 2014, will be required to have taken the safety course.

Then they should require motor vehicle operators to take classes in motorcycle avoidance techniques, since cars cause the majority of motorcycle incidents.
