My Christmas vacation starts monday so it's time to start my winter project! Spent the morning with my builders Tim and Brian at Ozark Power Sports. I have on order: New fork seals. Progressive springs. Going to powder coat the lowers black. Progressive shocks on order. Additionally i plan a new paint design. I have most of a set of tins that i'm prepping now. I'll just set the black tins aside and either keep them or sell them. The new color plan. I'll add some striping to that. Once that is well underway, we'll start on wheels. Gong to pull the wire wheels off my donor bike. Powder coat the hubs black and lace up black hoops. Chrome laces. Should look hot! Updates as things progress. ;D Shout-out to Ozark Power Sports!!!

Nice color Tim, is that 2003 Kawasaki Blue? If so that is my favorite color from Kawasaki.

I think it is very close. It's an off the shelf DupliColor metallic blue i picked up at Oriley. I love that Kawi blue too. Definitely my inspiration.

Alright Tim great start.. did you decided to do the fork rebuild yourself or will OPS do the work? If they do you should watch the first time and see it really isn't to difficult (if you have a manual). So when you start racing you will know how to rework them ha. As for the striping let me know if you need any help with that..Good luck we'll be watching the progress.

I intended my build to start with my vacation on monday but i couldn't wait so i got started a bit the last couple of days. Gonna go slow with the glaze. Nice thin layers. Still need a left side cover. Could only find them as a set on ebay so they are on the way. Got the fork seals from Z1 enterprises today as well.

Got my eBay body parts in and they were a bit rough so i had to break out the gorilla glue to shore up some week and cracked sections.
OPS says the suspension upgrades are in so hoping it will warm up enough to ride the bike out there tomorrow.
Now i'm looking at my instrument cluster and thinking about cleaning some of that up. ;D

The forks are broken apart and off to the powder-coater. I've added a few things to the shopping list: Got a modern master cylinder and break upgrades on order. The pipe is off with the tail painted and some cool "carbon fiber" wrap ready to apply. On the body parts i'm still sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, filling...

I'm familiar with the filling and sanding bit; I spent 4 years rebuilding the severely rusted-out body of a '68 Caddy when I was a teenager.
You may want to see if you can find a product called "Marine-tex". It's used primarily on boats, but works much better with plastic and fiberglass than Bondo does. It also retains a little flexibility, which Bonda does not.
As for your gauges, what about getting one of those all-in-one digital jobs? I bought one for my Twinstar a year or so ago; it's made by Acewell, and has a digital speedo, bar graph and digital tach, and 5 or 6 indicator lights, all in one small (about 2.5 inches) package.

Pipe wrapping day... Rigged up a fancy holder. Started with the inside pipes ending below the bottom turn. Then on the first outside pipe i continued after the bend to wrap all 4 together. With the last outside pipe i did the same and wrapped the 4 together. Many use wire to fix the ends in place but i went with stainless pipe clamps because i like the industrial look.

On the off chance that anyone is following this i'll keep updating. Took most of the day because i was using "filler primer" for several coats to try to make up for my crapy body work skills. Also with the cold i had to wait longer between coats. I'll see what i end up after wet sanding. They might just end up as my "track day" tins. ;D I do love the color.

I'm following. I need all of the inspiration I can get to get me out in the garage! And the tins look great from here, so keep up the good work. You might need to add "body man" to your resume'.
