Doesn't the lip of the pod boot on those cover the air hole on the carb bell? Not quite, I've checked a couple of times and the lip doesn't sit all the way down onto the face of the bell. Well, I finally had some time this weekend to play around with things. On spec I ripped the filters & boots off entirely and that quickly ID'd the problem. Here's the mount with the aforementioned lip Here's with it mounted. What you can't see is that there's over 1/4" of clearance internally from the face of the throat out to the lip. I didn't think it would effect things but I was wrong. Uh-Oh... This was my simple "half beer" solution for the interim. Probably going to upgrade to some of that fancy Aluminum screen.

Debating whether to just build some velocity stacks or if I go a different route. Certainly a completely different animal when she's running right!!

According to the carb guru's I've read the CV carb doesn't like turbulence. Even with stacks it isn't a "still" environment. The Uni PK-92 is a recommended remedy if you want pods instead of the air boxes.
