I ran across an article on the Hell for Leather web site about a new cafe racer that is being sold in the US. The Cleveland CycyleWerks Misfit might be a viable alternative for somebody that has to have financing to get their rocker on the road. I thought it was an interesting idea, and have often wondered why somebody hadn't went after a niche the big boys can't be bothered to exploit.

Changing the thread title would be great, please do it if you can as admin. That would give us a place to drop links for the new stuff we run across. That SYM looks like a viable starting point for a custom/cafe ride. Especially if you were wanting to start with an all new bike, or didn't want to go to the hassle and expense of rebuilding an older bike. Here's a link to Hyosung Motors USA, the Korean brand that Interstate Motors in Rolla carries in addition to Moto Guzzi and Royal Enfield. www.hyosungmotorsusa.com/ I've not stayed current about the other Asian manufacturers of bikes, especially their quality and performance. I'm guessing most started as scooter manufacturers and then moved into motorcycles. But I think I'll keep looking at the vintage bikes for my inspiration, at least until they get priced out of the market.

that article makes an interesting description of a cafe racer, if that's true, I might rather stay on my butt bullett or crotch rocket.

that article makes an interesting description of a cafe racer, if that's true, I might rather stay on my butt bullett or crotch rocket. Yeah, the article went back and forth about cafe racers. Critical and condescending, then complimentary about how much fun he was having. In my opinion the author read like somebody too worried about his image as a cutting edge motorcyclist to let his hair down and just have some fun. Too bad, because when he was giving a description of his experience, without slopping on all of his attitude, it sounded like he was having a blast on the bike. One of my favorite mottos in life certainly applies here: Take away what applies or rings true to you, and leave the rest. Peace!
