Can anybody recommend a local retailer with a good selection of helmets? I'm looking for a classic Bell or Davida style. I tried the Sgf Yamaha dealer, and they stock mostly dirt bike and full-face helmets. I've had rotten luck with online sources (a head the size of Sputnik), so I want to try before I buy. Thanks!

Crusin 66 (Glenstone) has some very cool retro 3/4 ones. The 60s live!!! And Wes will let you test ride the big bikes quite often. ;D

Tim, thanks for the advice. I went by Cruisin' 66 after work to check them out. Great selection, and almost all were on sale. Unfortunately it was as I remember, the Bell and Davida style helmets are round, and my head is oblong, so no joy. But I did find a nice Sparx brand 3/4 helmet with integral face shield in size "double extra bubba" for about half price. That left enough cash for a spare tinted shield. I can't wait to see how it works Saturday. Again, thanks.
And about those test rides, they invited me back to take a spin on the new 2012 High-Ball that I was checking out. Very cool!

The owner (was that Wes?) was helping me and went to the back and brought out an XXXL, but in that brand it was the equivalent of about an XL. He had a great full face in XXL with the chin bar that you can raise (I believe HJC brand) that I'm probably going back for soon. Too good of a discount pass up, and the tilt-up chin bar kept me from feeling claustrophobic like full face helmets usually do. I tried on a similarly designed BMW house brand several years ago, but I believe it was $700+, a little too pricey for me.

I'm starting to really like that place. I hear their shop guy is great with old bikes too.

You won't regret getting a lift up chin bar. I have one and it is really nice. They do have a nice one there that has a dual visor system. There is a little switch on the side that drops down a tinted visor inside the helmet. Basically like a fighter pilot helmet.

You're right about Crusin' 66 Arlee thier wrench really knows what he's doing with old stuff. I too have a head similar to a casaba melon or maybe a VW bug. the only full face for me would be the Shoei XXL (I've owned 3) they cost a little more but you get what you pay for.

As a follow up on this thread: My search took my high and low, to just about every shop in SW MO, and even to Cycle Gear in Tulsa and OKC. A large, strangely shaped, head made me leery of ordering online and hassling with returns and such. So I ended back at the original suggestion, Cruising 66. I bought a modular HJC with internal visor and communications port. They had the equivalent helmet in stock, so I could verify fit, and they ordered me the color that I wanted.
I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of the feedback here, it was invaluable! :-)
