The "Springfield Mile" is one of our most historic motorcycle races. This August 31-September 2 i'm gonna ride up to watch the nationals. This will be a "2 Lane, Blacktop" ride through rural America to get to a classic American event. If anyone is interest in joining, let me know and i'll develop it as a club event. A general route idea.

When we go, we stay in the bleachers off turn one. Tickets are cheaper and nobody goes to a flat track race to watch the straightaways. Also I HIGHLY recommend bringing a pair of binoculars. The Mile is alot bigger than you think and between races there's sometimes a drunken chick brawl in the infield. Bring a camera for the vintage club that sets up right next to the entrance of the track. If you can get into the pits it's well worth it.

Right on! Thanks so much for the info.
As plans develop i'd like to pick your brain a bit more. I'm flying totally blind on this one. Really know nothing about it other than the suspicion that it's a dying bread of motor sports that is NOT nascar.

Might as well go to Davenport, Ia. for VINTAGE flat track on fri nite then 171 miles south to Sgf Il. for the modern stuff on sat. (my rooms booked) Davenport is a HUGE swap meet, saw the American Pickers there last year. One race class has to be 1910 or older, no clutch, brake rolling starts, 90 plus mph. I'm pumped already!

Sounds tempting but a lot of milage for non highway riding.
Still if you are doing it lets connect at SGF-ILL for sure.
