Well the paint is not even dry on the KZ and i went and did it again. So the story is - Back 30 years ago when i quit riding i sold my favorite bike. A Yamaha XS. Of course i want it back. Don't we all? So today Vince and i went hunting and i brought this little one home. Not a basket case but not running. She has been in storage for a year after the PO started dis-assembly for a re-build. The motor is free and everything seems there. Just had an hour to work on it so i did some clean up and pics for the assessment phase. The plan is for a resto / mod. Not original, but not striped down Cafe either. It will be a "tribute" to my original XS. So blue with white pin striping etc.

Nice find, I really like the way these bikes look with a street tracker and bobber style, but I can appreciate getting back to sentimental.

No idea yet what i will actually end up wit but i do love the "tracker" kist they have for the XSs. Might be the way to go.

The original shot is very nice, you couldn't go wrong reproducing that down to the minutest detail. But the flat trackers rock! Seeing what a nice job you've done with your KZ, I'm sure this one will be transformed into a classy ride too. Good luck!

Got a little work in after the ride today. First i got my KZ parts bike moved to it's new home in a "bike barn" behind the garage. Then i had a set of clubmen bars on a shelf so i started installing those to get the ugly stock ones off. The XS had a broken clutch lever and mount so i pulled one off the "Parts KZ" and with some filing, finagling and futzing i got it to work. Couldn't have done it with-ought my darling assistants. They are dis-assembly experts. ;D Basically i'm going to be in "place holder" mode for the first round.

Looks like the assistant in the pink coat has a handful of throttle and isn't about to let go. Kind of reminds me of Dad... Have they started bugging you for the keys yet?

Keys? She don't need no stinking keys!!! That picture is ageless! Nothing more life affirming than a child's spontaneous expression of joy, and that young lady is the epitome of it. Nice job Tim! And I bet she will be able to fit on one of Brad's YSR50's in no time. You better start shopping for petite leathers.

I wish i could get it done this winter. Unfortunately i'm back to work and traveling starts again so this one will take a while. Especially if i stick to doing most of it myself.

I've spent a few days, off and on futzing with her. Putting parts back on where I think they should go. Going over the wiring trying to reconnect things where i guess they should go. New plugs, etc...
So today i finally went for it.
Approximately 1,374 kicks and then, Pop Then another 346 kicks and PopPop 162 kicks and PopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPopPop!!!!
The movie!
That $160 i spent on her is starting to look like a much better idea. ;D
