Just for fun i ran the budget and I'm at around $400 including purchase price. Depending on the cost of shocks and allowing for one or two surprises i should bring it in close to $600 all in. As thrifty as you've become you'll be able to afford that many more additions to your stable! You better start shopping for a mega-multi bike discount insurance policy and some extra storage space.

Thrifty might be stretching it a bit...

Came home from the ride and installed the "new" clutch lever i got from Austin. Road her around the block!!! A bit sketchy since the mufflers, the tank and the seat were all just sitting in place. More painstaking detail to come. ;D

Great job! There's hope for a neophyte like me yet. But just to be safe I'm going to stock up on SeaFoam. :-)

Progress today?
Well... I chopped up the CB500 seat to try to make a flat one. Then decided the seat was too far gone (rust) and threw the bits on a shelf.
Then sat and starred at her for a while.
Then decided to make my life easier and chop my stock seat flat...tomorrow.
Then sat and starred at her for a while.
Took a wire wheel in my drill and smoothed out the frame where i cut the tabs off last week.
Then sat and starred at her for a while.
Then jumped on the V and went for coffee with Phillip.
So, i guess in the absence for making progress i at least made a decision.
That's something, right?

Most of the day spent with brushes and a brillow pad scrubbing the bike. When i got it it came with a coating of what appeared to be cement dust. Very hard coating but i think i got it all off. Then on to the seat. Chopped about 2 inches off of the end and then used a heat gun to bend another 1 inch down to form the "back". Chopped the foam off the "step", to flatten the seat out. And an inch off the bottom tip that sticks down. Had a little helper. Then off to coffee. If I stopped drinking coffee i'd have this thing built by now. ;D
