Exotic locale dual sport touring came up in conversation the last few days. I had to check it out again to remind myself why this is on my bucket list. Here's a link to a Intro to Ecuador 12 Day Self-Guided Tour. Includes bike rental, helmet, gloves, pre-programmed GPS, SPOT tracker, guide books, nightly accommodation in a "luxury hacienda or boutique hotel", and much, much more. :-) Approximate cost: 200cc -> ~$2200, 650cc -> ~$2800, and the BMW GS's -> $3600. Now to find a slow (cheap) boat from Missouri to Ecuador.

Europe's boring. I'm in for Ecuador 2013! I have to qualify Tim's previous statement. Europe is boring to the guy that's been to 74+ foreign countries. However, to little ol' hillbilly me, Europe's still pretty darned exotic. ;D Of course, that being said, Ecuador is one of the cheapest countries in the Americas, uses the US$ as their currency (no exchange losses), and you can go from the top of a volcano to the beach in one long day's ride. Time to start polishing up my EspaƱol! However, the Edelweiss Bike Tours 14 day tour through Germany, Belgium, France and Luxembourg, scouting castles and breweries, is still high on my list. But at $7,000+ it's a little bit out of my adventure budget right now. Maybe next year.

I could be convinced to do this trip. The big GS's are too tall for my short inseam, so I'd go for a 650 of some variety.

I'm headed to Estes Park CO next week with the kids, SUV, and a moto on the trailer. Laurie has her practicum, so she's staying at home. Hiking, biking, rafting!!
