Between taking the camper out a couple of times, a few weekend rallies, mowing, and bouts with hay fever, I found time to spend with the H-2. I could not believe the stuff I found on this bike! Most of the engine mounting bolts were hidden under mud, grease and squrrel nests complete with acorns. The parts ready for a car wash trip. I needed to get the engine a LOT cleaner before opening it up. Ready for final stripping. The frame will go to a chemical dip tank and the engine will come apart to see why I found the bike in the salvage pile. Why I found it in the salvage pile. It appears to have clutch pieces in the bottom of the sump along with an unidentified circlip that will require some research. Once I free the cylinders from the upper case I can have all the pieces cleaned for re-assembly.

The way you work reminds me of why i fell in love with vintage bikes in the first place. Thanks for the inspiration!

Update: Removing the cylinders has been a real challenge. The case serial number is 00104 so that needs to remain undamaged. I am reaching the point to where I might have to locate a set of cylinders and remove the originals by destroying them. The problem - electrolysis, which I mentioned in another thread. Thanks for everyone's input. Here is where I am so far THE PROBLEM The good, the bad and the uglyThe Good - The head bolt is actually a threaded pipe with a hex head at the top. That leaves me a trough that I can fill with penetrating fluid. The Bad - It's STUCK I came up with a way to put pressure on the cylinder as I heat and cool it. I grooved a nut that rests on an exhaust stud and am using an engine mounting block as leverage for the bolt. The steel bar not only protects the case but by hitting it sets up a good vibration [any Beach Boy fans out there?] that I thought would help move the penetrant. It will still not budge. The Ugly - One final step before I destroy the cylinders. I am going to thread the 4 holes [It looks like a 14mm thread will work] so I can apply pressure directly to the studs that are causing the problem and hopefully break it loose. Back to work.

Tim, just a thought, perhaps loading the holes with some vinegar and letting them soak while applying pressure as you have been? Maybe alternating between that and PB blaster?
Would be a shame to destroy the cylinders but, at the same time, if they're that damaged internally from the corrosion they might not be reusable anyway.

Funny you should mention vinegar. I actually used that first but haven't alternated. The cylinders themselves are actually in good shape. It's where the studs go through that are fused together. I am trying to save them.

Are they $$ enough to have a machine shop drill and tap them?

Kano Laboratories AeroKroil penetrating oil daily and hit with rubber mallet. Could take a week or more.

Make your own penatrating oil. 50% ATF, 50% acetone. Soak it.
Also, liquid nitrogen pored on it several times. The expansion and contraction will break the bonds, and allow enough room for penetrating oil to actually penetrate it.

FAILUREChemicals plus heat plus rubber mallett FAILUREI made a wedge to force the cylinder up as I applied heat. No workie. FAILUREThis time I thought I had it. I had to buy a special tool for broken spark plug removal on Ford 5.4 engines [another story]. The cylinder hole was perfect for a 5/8 tap which is what the tool is. I screwed it into the new threaded hole, inserted the "pusher" to push against the stud and proceeded to pull the aluminum that was against the steel liner [too thin]. H-2 Forums have had reports of similar nightmares. OH WELL. BACK TO WORK
